Rob Vargo: A Journey from Humble Beginnings to Golf Industry Leader
Rob Vargo‘s life story is a testament to the power of perseverance and ambition. Growing up in Sterling Heights, Michigan, Rob‘s modest beginnings did not deter him from chasing his dreams. In 1987, armed with a modest $10,000 loan, he founded his first company, which quickly transformed into a multi-million dollar enterprise. Just a decade later, by 1997, his company was acquired by a Fortune 500 firm, setting the stage for his future successes.
Fueled by his passion for golf, Rob embarked on a new chapter of his career by purchasing Bruce Hills Golf Club in Bruce Township, Michigan. It was here that he immersed himself in the golf industry, often spending late nights at the club, meticulously preparing for the next day’s golfers. This dedication laid the groundwork for his subsequent ventures, where he acquired and revitalized numerous golf properties, including Beavercreek Golf and Banquets, which he rebranded as Myth Golf and Banquets. The grand reopening of Myth was a memorable moment for Rob, as the community united to celebrate the newly transformed public golf course, featuring 27 holes, elegant wedding accommodations, and outstanding cuisine.
In 2008, Rob expanded his reach by partnering with Hampton Golf Club, followed by the acquisition of Golden Hawk Golf Club in 2015. This picturesque venue boasts not only a championship 18-hole golf course and driving range but also serves as a premier wedding facility. A highlight of his year is the charity peach festival tournament hosted at Bruce Hills Golf Club, where Rob personally engages with participants, sharing stories and laughter over dinner.
Throughout his illustrious career, Rob emerged as the largest privately held golf company owner in Michigan, overseeing ten properties. As he reflects on his journey, he recalls the thrill of negotiating deals and witnessing families create lasting memories on the courses he developed.
Rob‘s entrepreneurial vision extends beyond mere business success; he aims to establish a legacy for his children. Currently, three of his four children hold integral roles as general managers and superintendents at the four properties under his ownership. Through Vargo Golf, Rob is dedicated to delivering exceptional service, delectable dining, and an enjoyable experience for all guests. His affiliations include the Polish Century Club in Utica, the Wart Hogs Police and Fire Club, Macomb County community relations, and the Eagles Club. His commitment to philanthropy drives him to participate in charity functions, contributing to causes that support the homeless and children’s education.
Residing in Fairhaven, Michigan, and spending winters in Marco Island, Florida, Rob‘s career spans an impressive 37 years, during which he has explored diverse entrepreneurial pursuits, including a machine shop, restaurant, and landscaping company. He fondly reminisces about his restaurant days, recalling the times he would lend a hand in the kitchen during peak hours and the joy of seeing customers relish their meals.
Ultimately, Rob Vargo‘s journey is defined not only by his entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability but also by the personal connections he has cultivated and the positive impact he has made in his community.
Work hard, Be honest, Have fun.
